Journey to Ecuador
11 – 24 October 2012
A new VegiVentures journey: The tour begins in the narrow cobbled streets of the world-heritage colonial capital, Quito, dominated by views of the vast Pichincha volcano. We travel by local transport to Otavalo in the northern highlands to learn about the culture, crafts and haunting music of the Otavalo Indians. We barter for woollen blankets and clothes at the market and learn from local weavers. We explore further by public transport and on foot, including a full day's guided walk around 3 mountain lakes. We travel deeper into the country to stay, learn from and cook with an indigenous family in Peguche. Then on to the beautiful elfin cloud forest near Mindo, where we stay on a farm. We visit sacred water-falls and spend time walking in the peaceful forests, observing the rich birdlife and looking out for other rarer wildlife. Please contact us for full details.
